Hand-held Digiscoping

I've been playing about with the painful art of digiscoping birds for a few years now and have tried a variety of cameras and adapters. Yet my all-time favourite bird shot (nesting Black Woodpeckers below) was taken by just hand-holding a Coolpix 995 directly to the telescope eyepiece.
I've recently picked up a Coolpix 4500 on ebay which has a few more megapixels and a longer battery life.
The main advantage of hand-holding is that you quickly line up the shot through the telescope eyepiece, tighten the tripod head and then just bring the camera up to the eyepiece and snap away.
